![]() ![]() Originally nine vessels were ordered, but by 2355 the number had increased to thirty-six. In addition, the Pioneer-class was, and still is, a testbed for new technologies, and was also the first Starfleet vessel to have phaser strips (six in total). The torpedo launchers could be swapped out for mission specific pods, and sections of the hull were designed to become hardpoints for additional weapons, sensors etc. ![]() Launched in 2333, the USS Pioneer NX-10791 soon proved that the new design was exactly what the designer's had promised, a hull that was optimised for versatility and adaptability. The spaceframe, which is a reverse take on the Miranda-class design, has the nacelles above the main hull, giving the ship a unique profile. ![]() Using the saucer section of the Churchill-class as a stable platform, the Advanced Starship Design Bureau (ASDB) started work on the Pioneer-class in early 2329 at the San Francisco Fleet Yards. ![]()
